The moisture content of well-cured cannabis flowers should remain below 13%, ensuring optimal texture and usability. In terms of water activity (aw), a measurement under 0.60 aw is considered stable for long-term storage without refrigeration, as it helps prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. For products with water activity levels between 0.60 and 0.85 aw, refrigeration isn’t necessary, though shelf life may be shorter due to potential microbial risks. If the water activity exceeds 0.85 aw, refrigeration or other preservation methods are crucial to prevent microbial contamination and ensure product safety. Regular testing of water activity is essential to meet both industry standards and consumer expectations for freshness and safety.
